I need to read it again to really form my opinion about it. I read it at the wrong time when my mood didn't suit this kind of reading. One thing that bothered me about it was how Atwood recycled her idea about the main character's childhood experience from Cat's Eye. Actually it's the other way around since Surfacing was published earlier, so Cat's Eye is actually further elaboration from the sniippet shown here. But I read Cat's Eye first and love it more so I couldn't help huffing in annoyance as I read it.It was an interesting book, where you couldn't be sure who to believe, the main character or Joe &co, made more complicated when at almost the end of the book she revealed a different fact about her past and memory.
